The Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act, (CERCLA) AKA SUPERFUND is a law that sought to hold those not taking responsibility for their actions of dumping waste in the past accountable for their actions. Superfund studies have shown that over 80% of the money set aside by the government went to litigation and not the clean up of the sites. Students learn the origin of this law and its purpose in the weave of environmental regulations.
